Dyson V8 Plus
"I just need something that works"
Which cordless vacuum is actually worth your money? I break down all four models so you can stop overthinking it.
Dyson vacuums are fantastic. The ease of use is a game changer โ swapping from handheld to stick on the fly is genuinely awesome.
My advice: If you have the money, the V11 is the minimum you should consider. The jump in battery life plus the LED screen and improved dustbin design is well worth the extra cost over the V8.
But if you have hardwood floors โ especially hardwood with pets โ you need the laser head. There's nothing more satisfying than hunting dirt in the dark, uncovering everything a normal vacuum misses. You'll be so proud of your haul that you'll actually look forward to vacuuming. The V15 Detect is my #1 recommendation.
What about the wet mop (V15s Submarine)? It's legitimately useful โ like a better Swiffer that makes mopping way faster. But unless it's on sale, I'd skip it. You're paying $150-200 extra, and the mop head is kind of annoying to clean and reassemble. I still use mine about once a month, but it's not essential.
Four models, four price points, one clear answer for each type of buyer
"I just need something that works"
"The workhorse most people should buy"
"See every speck of dust (literally)"
"Vacuum AND mop in one pass"
๐ก Price tip: The V15 Detect Plus (no mop) is almost always on sale for $650-750. The V15s Submarine with the mop rarely drops below $849. So if you don't need the mop, you're actually saving $100-200.

I've been an avid vacuum specialist since I first got addicted to making the stripes in the carpet as a child. I proudly stepped away from corded vacs in 2018 and never looked back (not counting shop vacs). I've owned a variety of Dyson products and I'm here to share my hot takes with all the other vacuum aficionados of the world.
